FINLAND
Although my tent was my primary residence before Stockholm, since then I have managed to find a warm bed in which to lay every night save two. Poulanka was one of those nights. The town was printed in bold letters on my map, which led me to believe that there surely would be at least a guesthouse, but I was mistaken. In sparsely populated Poulanka there was only one former hotel that had long ago permanently closed its doors to cold and weary wayfarers such as myself. In a pizza shack I warmed my toes while I downed dinner. Afterwards, I cycled outside the city limits and pitched my tent in the technicolor blue onset of darkness, pictured here. Wrapped in my sleeping bag I stayed toasty, although I had to sleep with a frozen bottle of water to thaw it out for some morning thirst quenching. (11-17-04)
